Adding altogether means we will count all the objects in both the boxes
In the figure below first box has 2 cats and second box has 3 cat and altogether we have 5 cats in third box.
So we can say that
2 cats and 3 cats is equal to 5 cats
Similarly
4 rats and 3 rats is equal to 7 rats
In the figure below first box has 4 rats and second box has 3 rats and altogether we have 7 rats in third box.
